QLD: Virgin Blue extends flights to Townsville

TOWNSVILLE, Feb 15 AAP - Discount airline Virgin Blue will be flying to Townsville
from next month as it extends its services to the regions.

The airline - launched last August by billionaire businessman Sir Richard Branson -
already flies between Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said here that more than 200,000 people have flown
on the airline since its launch.

"This will be the biggest shot in the arm," he said.

Mr Beattie is on his final barnstorming tour of the north before Saturday's state poll
and will visit Gladstone, Maryborough and Hervey Bay today where One Nation is fielding
candidates.
