Fed: International law experts at Canberra anti-terrorism forum
International legal experts will gather in Canberra today and tomorrow to discuss the
war against terrorism.
It will be the first meeting of the legal issues working group, which was established
at the regional ministerial meeting on counter-terrorism in Bali in February.
Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER and Attorney-General PHILIP RUDDOCK say Australia
will be working with other countries in the region to build legal regimes that make it
harder for terrorists.
The experts will consider what more can be done in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen
anti-terrorism laws and arrangements for gathering evidence and extraditing terrorist
suspects.
Indonesia will host a parallel working group to discuss law enforcement issues in two
weeks' time.
